TSMC Forecast to Extend Record Profit Streak on AI Demand
October 12, 2026
Read Original: ReutersTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is expected to report its sixth consecutive quarter of record profit, according to analyst expectations reported by Reuters on October 12. The anticipated result underscores the scale of spending on the advanced chips used in artificial intelligence systems.
Analysts forecast third-quarter net profit of roughly T$746.3 billion, equivalent to approximately $23.4 billion, representing an increase of about 65 percent from a year earlier. These figures are estimates ahead of the company's earnings release, not final reported profit.
TSMC occupies a central position in the global semiconductor supply chain. It manufactures advanced chips for major technology companies, including Nvidia and Apple, and provides packaging technologies that help combine high-performance computing components.
AI demand has increased the importance of both cutting-edge manufacturing nodes and advanced packaging. Building a fast processor is only part of the challenge; connecting chips with high-bandwidth memory and moving data efficiently are also essential to modern AI systems.
Reuters reports that TSMC's third-quarter revenue rose approximately 50 percent year over year, exceeding analyst expectations. That growth is one reason investors are watching whether management will raise its full-year revenue outlook.
Strong demand also creates operational challenges. Expanding production capacity requires enormous capital investment, specialized equipment, skilled workers and long construction timelines. New fabrication facilities cannot be brought online as quickly as a software service.
TSMC has committed substantial investment to manufacturing in the United States, particularly Arizona, while questions remain about the pace and location of further expansion. Geographic diversification may improve resilience, but it also adds cost and execution complexity.
For AI companies, reliable access to advanced manufacturing is a competitive advantage. For developers and businesses using cloud AI services, semiconductor capacity can indirectly influence hardware availability and infrastructure pricing.
Still, projected record earnings do not remove every risk. The chip industry remains cyclical, customer spending can change, and ambitious infrastructure forecasts are sensitive to broader economic conditions.
The upcoming earnings release should provide more clarity on demand, margins, packaging capacity and expansion plans. Until those results arrive, the headline profit figure remains an analyst forecast rather than an announced company result.
